I went to New York with the whole family last month, and here are a few of my favorite sights:

Today we visited our Little Buddies during Social Studies period. This is the first time we've seen them since before break, so they were of the most exuberance that we arrived JUST for them. When Mr. B. stuck his head in the kindergarten doorway, all of the kids squealed with joy.
"BIGGGGGG BUDDIESSSSS!"
One boy actually cried, he was so excited. I guess they live for this sort of thing.
We had to help them write a sentence on how they're going to stay safe this year. Amber and I 'share' Juliette, so we both helped her spell various words (actually all of it) that she couldn't spell. She's mentioned to me before that she enjoys coloring, so when we first arrived in the classroom, she pointed to a messy marker drawing of a Christmas tree in front of her, saying she made this for the both of us. After we oohed and ahhed and gave her our thanks, we helped her spell and watched her draw a picture of herself wearing a sparkly helmet, riding her brand new bicycle.
I looked at the drawing she made for us, and saw that she had hand-written something on the back. It went a little like this:
I love You U Yo-Yo Ye anD MRS. M2 OSKal You to
I asked her to read it for us, and as I watched her blush madly, I heard her utter, "MRS. MOSKAL WROTE IT." And I figured she was embarrassed she wrote she loved us on it. That, or she couldn't remember what she wrote. So I spent the rest of the period trying to decipher what she meant by these scrambled words. I mean, all the S's were backwards, and she wrote 'MRS. M2 OSKal' vertically, so another 5 year old's interpretation of this would've been helpful, but all were 'occupied'. There's also four oval shaped hearts on it, the kind like I used to make when I was her age, all rounded and misshapen. Then, drawn horizontally, as if it were lying down, is a very tall girl with rectangle arms and long blonde hair that curls at the ends. I asked Juliette who it was, and she said it was me. I laughed lightheartedly, and said thank-you once more as our class left their room.
I really wish I was in kindergarten. Everything semmed to be so laid-back and simple. Back then, the biggest worry any of us could have was the fear of peeing your pants or losing in an intense game of tic-tac-toe. This, or having the smelly kid who eats glue and his boogers at the same time have a crush on you. That was the WORST, because boys had cooties. (Even though we all had crushes on Matt O'Neil. ;] )
The most distinct memories I have from being in kindergarten are so vivid, it's tripping. (?!) I mean, I remember Alice Kim making me a beaded dragon keychain at reccess one day that I kept on my backpack for the next 5 years. I remember Daniel Lynch falling asleep on the mat next to me during nap time, and everyone giggled infectiously as the troublemakers tried puting crayons in his ears while he snored. I remember Marissa, the hyper compulsive maniac who I saw in karate class weeks after we met. I remember Aubree, the girl who had the hair I always wanted, winning the Nicest Person of the Month Award three months in a row.
Above all of these things, what I remember most was this boy named Nick, whose last name escapes me, who had a major crush on me. We were required to have a Bathroom Buddy whenever we had to go to the bathroom, so when one person had to use the potty, the teacher had to find another to walk with them.
One particular day though, I drank all of the supersize apple juicebox I had with my snack, so I had to pee extremely bad. I asked Mrs. Murphy to go to the bathroom, and Nick, who I never really paid attention to, was my bathroom buddy. As we walked down the hall, passing Mrs. Pool's classroom, Nick turned to me, with his blue bathroom pass in hand and said,
"I had a dream about you last night."
I especially remember staring at him funny, as I moved a little farther away from him and asked, "What did you say?"
"We got married. We lived happily ever after. It was the bestest dream I've ever had."
I remember turning red, as he tried to hold my hand and I squirmed away. Then, the punchline:
"Bestest dream ever? Nick! That's no dream, that's a nightmare."
Even THEN i knew I was a monster. XD
